Labeling receive addresses for someone who may inherit them
Inheritance-ready indexes need plain language, purpose tags, and a clear mark for addresses that should never receive again.
An executor who does not live in Bitcoin culture should still be able to read your address register. That means fewer clever abbreviations and more purpose tags: “salary 2022,” “gift from parent,” “savings pot — do not reuse.”
Retired addresses need a visible strike-through and a date. Leaving them unmarked invites someone to reuse a path you intentionally abandoned. During Address Registry Maintenance sessions we often add a one-page cover note: where the master ledger lives, who may open it, and which sealed envelope holds device instructions — never the seed itself on the same sheet as the public address list if you can avoid it.
If your family plan still depends on a chat thread of screenshots, book a registry visit before the next large receive. The goal is boredom: a dull, complete index beats a brilliant half-finished one.
